Precautions for adding cellulose

1. Choose the appropriate type of cellulose

HPMC: Suitable for plastering and insulation mortar, with strong water retention.

CMC: Low cost, suitable for low-end mortar, but slightly less stable viscosity.

HEC: Suitable for high fluidity mortar, such as self leveling mortar.

2. Control the amount of addition

• Insufficient: Insufficient water retention and thickening effect, making the mortar prone to cracking.

Excessive: Increased cost and possible decrease in compressive strength. Research has shown that when the cellulose content exceeds 2%, the compressive strength significantly decreases.

3. Construction environment

• Temperature: Increase the amount of cellulose at high temperatures (such as 0.2% -0.3%), and reduce it appropriately at low temperatures.

Humidity: In dry environments, water retention needs to be improved, while in humid environments, the dosage can be reduced.

4. Mixed process

Dry mixing: Mix cellulose with dry materials such as cement and sand thoroughly, and then add water and stir.

Wet mixing: Dissolve cellulose in water first, then add cement and mix to ensure uniform dispersion.

Mixing time: Extend the mixing time (3-5 minutes) to avoid cellulose clumping.

5. Balance cost and performance

Cellulose ether has a high price and needs to find a balance between performance improvement and cost control. It is recommended to choose well-known domestic brands for higher cost-effectiveness.

In practical applications, it is necessary to optimize the addition amount through experiments, balance cost and performance, and pay attention to selecting appropriate cellulose types and construction processes.
